Fab 50’s enjoying best sex of their lives

As we celebrate Menopause Month this October, a new piece of research from sylk.co.uk blows apart the myth that sex stops once you hit 50.  Welcome news to all those celebrating the milestone birthday this year which includes Anthea Turner, Daryl Hannah, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Nigella Lawson and Tilda Swinton.

According to the menopause sex survey by sylk.co.uk aimed at women 50+
·        68% of respondents make love more than once a month
·        42% make love between 1 and 3 times a week and
·        6% more than 3 times a week.

Whilst the thirty something generation struggle with long working hours, young children and the burden of meeting mortgage repayments, it would seem the ‘Fab50’s’  have the time and privacy to enjoy their sex lives to the full.

When asked whether they thought sex was better now than when they were younger, the majority answered yes giving the following reasons:
·        More time and privacy
·        Know each other so well
·        Less worried about it
·        Less tired as our children are grown up
·        Less stressed by work as retired
Far from being shy in the bedroom, nearly 90% of respondents said they had used a love toy, nearly 50% used erotic books and films and 23% have tried sexy role play.

Whilst the aging process and the menopause can have an impact on the enjoyment of sex, often there are simple solutions that can help. Some of the steps respondents had taken to overcome difficulties like intimate dryness and loss of libido, include:
·        Talk to your partner
·        Allow longer for foreplay
·        Use a lubricant
·        Create a romantic setting
·        Reduce alcohol and caffeine intake

Estimates suggest only a quarter of women with vaginal dryness seek medical help.   With research from The Lancet indicating that by 2050 women will spend half their life post menopause, it’s important women, of which an estimated 10 million are currently menopausal, are encouraged to talk openly about intimate issues.

To encourage women across the nation to share their menopause sex tips and concerns, sylk.co.uk is launching the menopause sex debate.  Find out more by visiting http://www.sylk.co.uk/ and get a free sample of Sylk Natural Lubricant.
